YTDownloader web app

The web app lets you paste a YouTube video or playlist link, preview available media, listen or watch in a clean browser player, and download files only when media is available and you are allowed to save it.

If you create or sign in to a registered playback account, the service stores a masked email identifier and a password hash. It does not store your raw password.

Gemini transcript analysis

Registered users can enable in-video sponsor-read skipping. When this feature is on, YTDownloader fetches available YouTube captions or auto-captions for the selected video and sends timestamped transcript text to Google Gemini so Gemini can identify sponsor-read start and end times. The returned skip ranges are used only for playback in the browser player.

If Gemini is not configured, captions are unavailable, or Gemini cannot identify a clear sponsor segment, YTDownloader does not guess and does not skip.

YT Notes Companion Chrome extension

YT Notes Companion is a Chrome extension for private notes, clean links, saved links, and title capture on YouTube video pages. It is available from the Chrome Web Store.

Extension data model

The extension stores notes and saved links in Chrome local storage in your browser. It reads the active tab only after you open the extension, does not request persistent host permissions, and does not make background server calls.

The extension declares browsing history as an optional permission. It requests that permission only if you click Find recent links, and then filters for recent YouTube video links so you can copy them or open them as a YTDownloader playlist.

When data leaves your browser

The YT Notes Companion extension does not send notes to YTDownloader. If you click Open in YTDownloader, it opens the web app with your saved video links in the page URL so the playlist can be loaded there.

The web app sends pasted YouTube links to the YTDownloader backend to resolve preview and playback options. For registered sponsor-read skipping, transcript text for the selected video is sent from the backend to Google Gemini for analysis.
